Kwik Kopy Press Release
| The hidden costs of in-house printing and copying < Australia, New Zealand > April 21st, 2006 One of the biggest hidden expenses in organisations is the cost of printing and photocopying which can be as high as 40 per cent of a company’s labour costs.
According to Forrester Research an awareness of the entire print lifecycle is necessary, not just a focus on the cost of printers. The actual cost of the printer is only about 5 per cent of its total cost of ownership. Support costs often account for half of the total print costs. David Bell, General Manager, Kwik Kopy, agrees and says most businesses don’t realise just how much in-house printing and photocopying is costing them. “The digital age has generated more paper based documents, not less and the hidden costs add up to more than you realise. Toner and paper have to be purchased at full retail price, ongoing costs such as servicing and electricity need to be taken into account, as do wastage and unauthorised use by staff members,” said Mr Bell. “The largest cost however comes from the man-hours spent standing at the photocopier or printer to oversee jobs, change pages, clear paper jams and replace toner. An alternative is to outsource the problem,” he said. According to research firm IDC, companies that implement a managed image and print strategy report cost savings of up to 23 per cent, including a 25 per cent reduction in the cost of consumables. “Kwik Kopy centres all around Australia have the latest technology on offer coupled with printing experts to ensure your job is completed to the highest standard, quickly. “Many companies print in bulk ‘just in-case’. With ‘Print on Demand’ at Kwik Kopy there is no need for this. It allows you to print in smaller quantities and store the original with your print professional for easy retrieval when you need more. “You can also talk to your print professional about reducing the size of what you are printing or photocopying to fit two pages worth of material onto one. Or you can ask them to make your copies double sided to save paper and money,” said Mr Bell. Kwik Kopy has 107 Centres operating throughout Australia and New Zealand.
