McDonald's smells new approach in sensory branding

"Do you want to smell coffee in the morning, and fries in the afternoon?" asks Dan Wohlfeil, who works at McDonald's' innovation centre, where the fast food chain has built a prototype restaurant interior.

The prototype restaurant's front counter is curved – in an attempt to be more inviting to customers; surfaces are painted in bright colours; and in one corner a touch-activated screen allows customers to punch in orders without queuing.
