February 6th, 2006

McDonald's Corp said it plans to open more 24-hour outlets in Shanghai this year, as a growing number of people are looking for somewhere to eat late in the early morning hours, the Shanghai Daily reported.

The fast food chain, which has about 80 outlets across Shanghai, began offering 24-hour service in some of its outlets last September. Currently, it has 16 such branches in the city, and customer feedback has been positive, according to company spokesman Gu Hua.

The 24-hour outlets include McDonald's first drive-through restaurant, which opened last month in the Waigaoqiao area in Pudong.

McDonald's has also opened 24-hour outlets in several other major Chinese cities, including Beijing, Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Chengdu
