Entrepreneur Rodger Ford founded AlphaGraphics, Inc. in Tucson, Arizona, in 1970. A pioneer and innovator, Ford’s vision was to create business centers that offered customers the latest visual communications technology. After successfully building the company’s operating systems into a successful and profitable business model, AlphaGraphics began franchising in 1979. In 1984, the company became the first desktop publishing retailer. By the late ’80s, AlphaGraphics was aggressively pursuing the global marketplace, becoming the first U.S. printing franchise to expand internationally.
In 2001, the company moved its headquarters to Salt Lake City, Utah. Today, there are more than 250 AlphaGraphics franchises located in the United States, Brazil, China, Cyprus, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia and the United Kingdom. AlphaGraphics is one of the Pindar Companies. G. A. Pindar & Son Ltd., a privately held company, is based in the United Kingdom.


AlphaGraphics’ position in the market is in the high relationship/value-added services segment, focused on providing consultative solutions for customers rather than just convenience and commodity printing. Research by the Print Institute of America indicates that in the next five years, value-added services will grow to 50 percent of industry revenues vs. 20 percent in 2005.
