Saving Consumers, Businesses and the Planet
Every cartridge refilled means one less cartridge that is thrown out.
Recycling cartridges is environmentally friendly and you can feel good about supporting sustainable development for the planet’s limited natural resources and not adding to our already overloaded landfills.
Consider the facts:
It takes about a gallon of oil to make a new laser cartridge.
Almost 8 cartridges are thrown away per second in the United States alone!
In North America alone, over 350 million cartridges per year are discarded in our landfills, and that number increases by 12 percent annually!
A laser cartridge thrown into landfill can take up to 450 years to decompose. Some components made of industrial grade plastics will take over a thousand years to decompose.
Every remanufactured cartridge saves nearly 3 and 1/2 pounds of solid waste from being deposited in landfills.
Remanufacturing cartridges reduces pollution. Almost 90% of empty cartridges are incinerated or dumped in landfills.
70 percent of used printer cartridges throughout the world are currently being thrown out.
In one year, if the world’s discarded cartridges were stacked end-to-end, they would circle the earth over three times.
In addition to being environmentally responsible, Cartridge World and recycling cartridges also creates jobs locally. Every cartridge is recycled and remanufactured and in the community that the Cartridge World store serves.
Cartridge World is providing consumers and businesses with an alternative to protect the future of our environment. This proactive solution to waste reduction is a Win/Win for consumers, entrepreneurs and the environment.
With our continued commitment to recycle printer cartridges, we look forward to the day when recycling cartridges is as common as separating waste material in our homes for the recycle bins.
Every single cartridge saved from a landfill makes a difference. But imagine the difference made when 1,000 or even 1,000,000 cartridges are saved? This will not only protect our environment but save consumers thousands of dollars.

The summer of 2002, the Cartridge World family of stores was growing quickly in Australia and Great Britain. Company Directors Bryan Stokes and Paul Wheeler then set their sights on the world's most promising consumer market: The United States.
Mike Fuller, CEO of Franchise Development, was dispatched to the United States to make Bryan and Paul's vision a reality. Mike quickly settled on an office and warehouse location in the City of Emeryville just 6 miles east of San Francisco, California. With the location at 5743 Horton Street now secured, it was time to start looking for the people who would lead Cartridge World North America to prominence in the refilling industry.
First on board in December of 2002 was CEO Burt Yarkin. Burt came to Cartridge World with a wealth of franchising experience including a successful tenure in Franchise Development with Gymboree. John Dring was named EVP after having been a senior executive at UPS Stores. An outstanding staff of professional men and women were assembled and ready to guide the tremendous growth of the fledgling company.
With a top notch staff in place, the system began to grow. 2003 saw the creation of 13 Master Territories in the United States, each owned by Master Franchisees that began to populate the U.S. market with the Cartridge World brand. By the end of 2003, 40 store franchises had been awarded and 12 stores were open and doing business.
In 2004, growing pains were already bringing changes. The corporate offices were already busting at the seams so a new corporate headquarters was occupied in July of 2004. This new facility consisted of over 18,000 square feet and included the first North American training center. This new facility, located at 6460 Hollis Street in Emeryville, now houses an 8,000 square foot warehouse and over 5,000 square feet of corporate offices, in addition to the 6,000 square foot training center.
2004 was also a break out year for store growth. The 100th store in the United States was sold in June and three new Master territories were added. With a strong corporate and Master infrastructure in place, Cartridge World North America is poised to assume its place as the largest component of the international Cartridge World family. On average, we are awarding one new store every day in the US alone!
