Petland, Inc. is a privately held Ohio corporation founded in 1967. Initially, Petland owned and operated retail pet stores in Ohio, West Virginia and Kentucky. In the early 1970's, Petland began franchising pet stores and entered the business of wholesale distribution for pet-related merchandise. In the late 1980's, Petland expanded its presence in Canada and entered international markets in Japan, France, and in the 1990's to Chile and in 2001 to South Africa through master franchise agreements. Petland currently has 120 stores in the United States and 55 in foreign markets. More than 25 new domestic stores are scheduled to open within the next twelve months.

The Petland Distribution Network is vitally important in assisting you with ongoing operations. This proven network provides you with a complete inventory ordering system which assures that you order the right merchandise, in the right quantities, at the right time.

The Petland Distribution Network can also ship merchandise to your store on a weekly basis to make your inventory management more efficient.

Petland offers more than 600 private-label items which give you the advantage of selling pet accessories that are exclusive to Petland. Unlike the trend of many industries to private-label lower-caliber products, Petland private labels are the highest quality products around, thus assuring customer satisfaction with the Petland name.

And after years of analyzing and improving the selection of merchandise offered in Petland stores, the Petland Distribution Network is able to offer more than 6,000 of the most effective pet products available.

Petland provides you with a 6 week-long training program. You’ll spend 2 weeks in the classroom, and 1 week in a training store, plus 3 weeks in your new store with a Petland trainer.

You’ll learn the business of operating a Petland store: financial management, supervision of personnel, animal care techniques, inventory management, merchandising, community relations, and marketing programs. Petland will also provide you with comprehensive operations manuals and videos for reference, and to assist you in the ongoing training of your personnel. And throughout the year, Petland offers quarterly training programs for you and your key managers.

These programs focus on animal care, sales management, fish department development, community service, marketing and cost control. What’s more, quarterly Merchandising and Marketing Planners will keep you current on pet product developments, distribution specials and promotional campaigns.

Supporting Your Store’s Operations. The Petland corporate staff has one focus: your success. From the president to the receptionist, everyone’s job is rooted in the support of the strategic partners. Petland corporate officers review the financial statements of all Petland stores. Annually, a complete written review is generated, giving you specific suggestions and strategies for improvement.

You don’t have to be a pet expert to purchase a Petland franchise. You might not know a cockatoo from a macaw; and maybe the only amphibian you’ve handled was the frog in your backyard, but that’s okay.
