French supermarket group Carrefour on Wednesday confirmed media reports it was discusing the purchase of a stake in Indonesian supermaket chain Alfa Retailindo .

A source close to the group said Carrefour had clinched an agreement in principle with PT Sigmantara Alfindo and Prime Horizon Pte Ld to buy up to 75 percent of Alfa Retailindo.

Listed on the Jarkarta stock market, Alfa Retailindo has a market capitalisation of around $108 million.
