Carrefour will open its 100th hypermarket in China today and hopes to add 23 more megastores this year in the booming economy, the world's second largest retailer said yesterday.

France's Carrefour said the planned extra stores would be the company's biggest number of hypermarket openings in a country in one year. Last year, it opened 20 hypermarket stores in China.

The retailer made 2.5 billion euros (US$3.4bil) in sales in China last year, including revenues from its Dia discount stores. – Reuters
