BOGOTA (Thomson Financial) - Groupe Danone is to invest around 100 mln usd in Colombia over the next ten years, regional manager Marcelo Palmeiro told Colombian newspaper La Republica de Bogota.

Palmeiro said the group plans to construct a yoghurt plant in Cajica near Bogota in association with Colombia's Alqueria, representing an investment "of around 12 mln usd".

Colombia will also be used as a test market for the group, Palmeiro explained, "to determine whether we enter countries such as Peru, Ecuador, Bolivia and Venezuela, whether via exports or direct operations." tfn.paris@thomson.com vb/dca COPYRIGHT Copyright AFX News Limited 2007.
