June 16th, 2006
InterContinental, the international hotel chain, is eyeing an entry of the Bulgarian and Romanian markets, Georg Schlegel, development director at InterContinental Hotels Group, said in the sidelines of the Construction and Investment Forum underway in Sofia.
The first hotels of the chain in Bulgaria could open in Sofia, Varna and several other cities drawing investor attention, said Schlegel.
InterContinental does not invest in the hotels. The hotel owners are either franchisees or hire InterContinental to run the facility.
In Bulgaria, the company plans to debut its flagship brand InterContinental. The mid-market brand of the company - Holiday Inn, will officially arrive on the Bulgarian market in June with the launch of a hotel of the same name in Sofia.
