Carrefour Group signed an agreement protocol regarding the acquisition of Artima for EUR 55 M, according to a news release sent to our editorial office. Artima currently operates 21 supermarkets in western Romania, with a total sales area of 21,000 sq m. The company estimates for this year sales of approx. EUR 97 M, accounting for a significant increase as compared to 2006, when the turnover amounted to EUR 75 M. Carrefour Romania targets, with this acquisition, “to strengthen its presence in emerging markets, through a multi-format approach under one brand.” The transaction will be finalised as soon as the Competition Council approves it, and will be, according to market experts, the single largest sale in the foodstuff retail segment in Romania.
